release)
Seekers of the first Mischief Brew demo ("Mirth")
and lovers of raw scratchy cassette recordings
unite. The long-talked-about "demo discography" is
finally available. From both ends of the spectrum, of
course: a physical version available on cassette only from
Dead Format (a cassette-only label from Bethlehem, PA), and an
online exclusive version available from Fistolo Records and
Downloadpunk.com. Both versions will have an extra bonus
track, exclusive to each release. The "Mirth" demo is
included in its entirety, along with songs from both WKDU
sets, "Don't Spoil Yer Supper!", old compilations...and a few
never-before-heard songs. An important chapter in the
Mischief Brew story...

Meisce "Shipwrecked in a
Bottle" CD
File under
"ANARCHO-CELTIC-PUNK!" Seattle's Meisce ("mesh-key-ah")
formed October 2002, a seven-piece collective featuring
members of Wormwood, Inhaste, Countdown to Armageddon, and
Slightly Less Than Nothing. The result is a mix of Irish folk,
klezmer, gypsy music... all with a heavy crust/punk influence.
A follow-up to the "Bored of the Dance" 7", "Shipwrecked in a
Bottle" is rollicking and festive enough for Pogues and
Tossers fans - yet perfectly pissed off and beautifully dark,
for fans of...Amebix? No cop-lauding ballads here...
just pure rebel music with fiddles and accordions - by the
punks, for the dancers.
$10 post-paid in the
U.S. LIMITED TIME SPECIAL! Get this CD and Meisce's "Bored
of the Dance" 7" for $12 post-paid.

The Can Kickers "Live at Lavazone"
CD
In January
2007, New London, Connecticut's old-timey trio The Can Kickers
embarked on a full U.S. tour with Philadelphia as their
kickoff show. We had it recorded (thanks to Red Planet
Recording). On a seemingly random night in West
Philadelphia, a roomful of drunken punks stomped, clapped, and
screamed to a fiddle, banjo, and washboard... and here's the
artifact to prove it. Old-tymey, bluegrass, country...
whatever you want to call it, this is punk rock even if it
sounds like a barnyard stomp. 100% organic and more
importantly, locally grown in West Philly at LAVAZone (www.lavazone.org).

U.S.

Stockyard Stoics/The Filaments "The Special
Relationship" split 7"
Along with
labels like Fight For Your Mind (France), Household Name (UK),
Carnus (Spain), Concrete Jungle (Germany) and Roots Rock Rebel
(NYC)... we've teamed up to bring you the final recordings
from NYC's anarcho-street-punks Stockyard Stoics and UK
ska-punkers The Filaments. Three agressive songs from
both bands, covering the topical gamut of the Christian Right
to class issues within the punk scene. Comes with a
Stoics sticker and a mini-zine. No bullshit DIY punk
rock. This shit rules.
$4 post-paid in the U.S.
Overseas distros: please deal
direct with one of the labels listed above. |

Witch Hunt "Blood-Red States"
CD
The second full-length from
Philadelphia's Witch Hunt brought not only a line-up change
(with Rob moving to guitar and new drummer Vince joining up),
but a louder, heavier, grittier, crustier, and more pissed off
sound. Ten tracks that blast over you like a burning
locomotive then leave you for dead. "Blood-Red States"
shows the growth of this band, both musically and lyrically...
recorded in West Philly by Steve Roche at Permanent Hearing
Damage. A newly remastered vinyl version is being
released by the band themselves.
This CD has
been split-released by Fistolo and Witch Hunt.

Bread & Roses "Deep River Day"
CD
This is
the long awaited full length CD from Boston-based dust-raisers
Bread & Roses, who up til now have only produced many live
and demo recordings, and a split 7" with Mischief Brew.
12 songs in all wrapped with amazing illustrations, recorded
in an old church using upright bass, fiddle, mandolin, banjo,
tin whistle, and a whole lot of singing and banging. In
addition to the original and previously unheard songs, there
are also renditions of Merle Haggard and Utah Phillips
songs...all with stories behind them. Bread & Roses
are somewhat of a folk punk orchestra with many members, their
shows an intimate acoustic experience...and this recording is
about as close as one can come to seeing them live, completely
self-produced using the olde "crowd around the mic"
style. You can almost feel the strings being plucked,
picked, and sawn...

Witch Hunt "This is Only the Beginning..."
CD
This
is the newest and oldest CD by Philadelphia's Witch Hunt,
documenting their first few years as a band. 24-tracks
in all, it includes their first LP ("...As Priorities Decay"),
their first self-titled 7", their split 7" with Deathbag,
unreleased demo tracks and more. All remastered from the
original mixes by Don Grossinger, this is
a diverse feast of crust, hardcore, anarcho-punk and
traditional punk rock...layered with dueling female/male
vocals attacking issues of sexism, racism, reproductive rights
("Legislative Bodies Legislating Bodies"), just to name a
few. Witch Hunt wield a unique sound, as well as a
unique lyrical style that is both pissed off and proud, full
of rage and full of hope all at once. They are not to be
missed...and if you have been wanting to check them out but
don't know where to start, well, this would (chrono)logically
be a good place! They're not stoppin' anytime
soon...

Meisce "Bored of the
Dance" 7"
Seattle's Meisce (pronounced 'mesh-key-ah') has been
together since October of 2002, combining elements of Irish
folk, gypsy, Eastern European klezmer, and punk rock, among
other influences. It is with great pleasure that Fistolo
and Aborted Society Records are split-releasing their first
vinyl release..."Bored of the Dance," which those disgusted
with Michael Flatley's ego will find oh-so-amusing!
Imagine a more crusty Flogging Molly...nah that doesn't even
do it justice. How's this: this includes members of
Countdown to Armageddon, Wormwood, Inhaste, and Slightly Less
Than Nothing. Oh yeah, and this record LOOKS freakin'
awesome. Trust us. Drink the alehouse
dry!

Mutiny "Co-op Brewery"
CD
The newest
recording from Melbourne, Australia's finest parcel of
rogues. How could you go wrong with a record based
around the tale of a co-operatively run microbrewery?
Other songs include stories of boat-shows, soup kitchens,
dirty bars, and locomotives. Basically, the lyrics are
amazing, painting a gritty picture of down-and-out drifters,
free-spirited travellers, and the
seekers-of-a-better-world...all put over catchy
colonial-Australian folk-punk melodies. What does that
mean? Well, think less fiddle and more
accordion/mandolin (although there is fiddle and tin whistle
on this too). If you're a fan of The Pogues, The Clash,
Swingin' Utters, The Tossers...all that...then you should hear
this band.

Mischief Brew "Songs From
Under the Sink" LP (CD out of
stock!)
Anarcho-bard Erik Petersen casts forth another full-length to
follow up 2005's "Smash the Windows," a collection of songs
written between 1997-2002. As opposed to the gypsy-punk
epics on "Smash," the songs on "Sink" are more stripped down,
returning to Mischief Brew's roots with percussive acoustic
guitar-abuse, mandolins, and junk percussion. The lyrics
are twice as vicious, covering topics such as the Iraq War,
the death penalty, police brutality, prisons...and of course
alcohol and pyromania. Previously performed solely at
basement shows, punk bars, and protests...and now on Mr.
Yuk-green vinyl once and for all (500 green/500 black).
The LP version also wields a unique rendition of "A Rebel's
Romance" that will not be on the CD.

Mischief Brew/Bread & Roses "Loved But
Unrespected" split 7" EP
Bread & Roses are a Boston-based folk punk orchestra
of sorts that has managed to spread countless demos here
and there over the years...and we're excited to have put out
their first official release, a split 7" with Mischief
Brew. Each band contributes one original song and one
traditional labor song (with Bread & Roses spicing up the
Wobbly anthem "Dump the Bosses Off Your Back" and Mischief
Brew arranging/rearranging Joe Hill's "The Preacher and The
Slave"). Originals? MB delivers a unique acoustic
version of "Nomads Revolt" while B&R play an original song
that The Pogues wish they could have written. Yes, I'll
stand by that even as I'm getting pummeled by a mob of paddy
punks. The title is a salute to the great Utah Phillips
who defined the versions of both of the
aforementioned labor songs.

Guignol/Nanuchka "Drink the Best
Wine First" CDep
Not so much a
traditional split as a collaboration by two World/Inferno
Friendship Society sideshows! Also features Franz Nicolay of
The Hold Steady and Peter Hess of Balkan Beat Box and The E
Street Band. Heh heh. Guignol's accordion/clarinet
waltz "Agada" features Yula of Nanuchka on lead vocals
(sung in Hebrew, nonetheless), while Nanuchka's swingy
"Captain Sensible Calling" features Franz of Guignol on piano,
and a special guest appearance by Jack Terricloth of the
aforementioned World/Inferno. It has to be heard to be
believed! This is klezmer for Coney Island
fire-breathers, sea-shanties for grease-painted gutterballs,
and jazz for punk kids that joined the
circus.

Mischief Brew "Smash the
Windows" CD
The newest
full-length by Erik Petersen and his array of minions.
"Smash The Windows" is an experiment in insanity, an
attempt to blow the folk-punk template to pieces! Instrumental
cameos include accordion, clarinet, marimba, and various metal
objects clanged/banged upon. Guest appearances by members of
World/Inferno, Guignol, Evil Robot Us', and Leftover
Crack. The "Bakenal" EP set the stage: here, we have
more tales of jaded drunkards, anarchist witches, and
revolting nomads. Recorded at Vibromonk in Brooklyn
(which has produced such acts as Gogol Bordello, Balkan Beat
Box, Firewater, Big Lazy....).

The Orphans "Raise
the Youth" CD Discography
21-track discography of one of the many great bands
from West Chester, PA. This was (Mischief Brew) Erik
Petersen's punk band from back in the day. Most of the stuff
was recorded '95-'96...it was released on a 7" ("Anthems For
Doomed Youth"), a few comps, and a cassette full-length. Now,
it has been unearthed, remixed, and re-mastered, and put on
one concise CD once and for all. It also includes some live
stuff, demo stuff, bonus commentary by Erik's parents, and
four new acoustic recordings of old songs (including an
official recording of "Kentucky Anarchist"!). More angry
youthful rebel-core than you can shake a skateboard
at.

David Dondero & Mischief
Brew "Two Boxcars" 7" EP
Love songs, rage songs, and
everything in between on this split EP by two artists who are
good friends. David Dondero plays twangy drunken ballads,
telling stories collecting from tours and travels. Erik
Petersen (Mischief Brew) belts out two anti-war, anti-folk,
anarcho-acoustic anthems. Altogether, it's four stories with
something for everyone.

Mutiny "Rum Rebellion" CD
Since its initial release, many a crusty
pirate punk has hunted for a mere cassette copy of this
record. Now, these Australian reveling rebels and Fistolo have
teamed up to bring you the official CD reissue of Mutiny's
"Rum Rebellion." Imagine a band of squatters strappin' on some
accordions and mandolins, singing raspy anthems about alcohol,
anarchy, shoplifting, baklava, fiddles, and fading punk
tattoos. Drink to better days!

Evil Robot Us' "In Song and In
Dance" 7" EP
Five songs of danceable folk punk with
great lyrics to match. Starting as an acoustic duo, then
soon recruiting legendary chaos punk Benji to bang on
some buckets, the trio grew into the amazingly catchy and
energetic band they are today. Female/male vocals over
an assault of acoustic guitars and drums, straight out of
Buffalo, NY.

Mischief Brew "Bakenal"
CDep
Django Reinhardt meets Shane MacGowan in
a dark alley. Five songs about carnivals, hoboes, lovers,
drunkards, anarchists, witches, and rebellion. From the
gypsy-swing of “Devil of a Time” to the marching-style
“Anti-Lullaby”, this EP will leave you with an even stronger
desire to hear a full-length Mischief Brew LP ("Smash the
Windows" - see above). Honest folk-punk.

Christopher Neumann "American Songs of Hope
& Distress" CD
A whopping 15 songs against Bush’s war
machine and for a free humanity beyond corporate domination of
every facet of life. Chris was the singer/head wingnut of
those legendary anarcho-farmers, the punk-as-hell 2.5 Children
Inc. With the help of Denis Panico (drummer of 2.5), Erik
Petersen (on about 15 instruments), and Seth Travens (playin’
a mean slide guitar and circus-punk farfisa organ), Chris has
put together some ripping rebel-songs, and some love songs for
after the revolution. This could be Tom Waits singing for the
Levellers, or Johnny Cash singing for the Pogues. Yet, it
crosses all borders of musical genres.

 PIRATE PUG
STICKERS NOW AVAILABLE!
Made by The Sticker Guy (also chosen as their
sticker of the week!)... to benefit the "Tiggy Eye Fund," as we call
it. As many of you know, we at Fistolo are total pug dorks, we
just rescued another one so it brings the count to THREE! We
adopted Tigger back in December, he is seriously the sweetest
dog ever considering he was hoarded and neglected, bullied by bigger
dogs and lost one of his eyes. Arr! Anyway, we knew we'd
have to have surgery on his other eye to save it... so if any of you
lovely people would like to donate to Tigger and his surgery, this
sticker would be your reward!
We're asking for $2 for each
sticker (which includes postage), since it's somewhat of a
"benefit." If you want to contribute more, that's awesome,
it's your choice. They measure 4.25" x 4.25" and are durable,
waterproof...and cute as hell.
So if you're planning on
ordering any records, consider adding another $2 to your order and
asking for the "Pirate Pug" sticker! We'd appreciate it so
much, as would Tiggy... all in hopes that maybe you'll get to meet
him on the next Mischief Brew tour with his vision saved!
Thanks! love, erik and
denise and pugs @ fistolo |
